Classroom environment
I believe in creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming classroom community that will meet the diverse needs of all students. Students need a nurturing and calming, yet stimulating atmosphere in which to grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially. It is my goal as an educator to help my students reach their fullest potential in these areas by providing a classroom environment that encourages risk-taking and self-discovery. My classroom will be a place where children can make mistakes, and thus learn without fear of failure. Their individual strengths and talents will be discovered and celebrated. I believe that all students have the capability to learn and obtain knowledge, and they deserve for their educational environment to be a place that encourages and supports just that.
Student Learning
Within that classroom, I know that there will be a wide range of skills and abilities among my students. It is my goal to share with them my passion for learning and make them feel inspired, supported, and motivated to learn. I believe the best way to provide a quality education to all students is to first understand them as individuals. By understanding their interests and forming relationships with my students, I will be able to personalize my lessons to my specific group of students in a way that will best engage them, foster their intrinsic motivation, and stimulate their desire to learn. I have become particularly committed to teaching my students to think critically. I believe that by encouraging them to ask questions (instead of simply answering questions) they will be able to identify and solve problems, come up with new ideas, and pursue opportunities in a meaningful way that will serve them well in their journey to becoming proficient, lifelong learners. With the right approach and materials, I know that I can create ample learning opportunities to help all students be successful.
my teaching
In order to ensure my students are intrinsically motivated, life-long learners, I will need to lead by example. I must hold myself to a high standard and uphold the same effort, respect, and kindness that I will expect from my students every day. I will take my role seriously as their teacher and always have their best interests at heart. To do so, I believe involving students’ families in their education is extremely important. The connection between home and school is one that can truly make a difference. In keeping constant communication with families, I can ensure that we are all on the same team, rooting for their child to be the most successful they can be. Along with that, I will strive to go above and beyond the curriculum to teach my students what it means to be a positive addition to their community exhibiting and building skills such as kindness, compassion, and empathy. Most of all, I will believe in my students and always encourage them to believe in themselves.
